Recently Shah visited and stayed overnight in Kibithoo, which is along the border with China and launched the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) on April 10 2023.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the people of the country to visit Kibithoo village in Arunachal Pradesh.
He described it as India’s first village and suggested everyone must to see the natural beauty of the Kibitu village.

Kibithu is a town in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, India.

Kibitu village is the place where the first sun’s rays fall in India this is why its described as India’s first village

The village ‘Kibitu’ lies along the Line of Control(LOC) in the Anjav district of the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
The special feature of this village is that two countries can be seen from its outskirts.

China is in the north and Myanmar is in the east. This village is located on the last road in north-east direction in north-east India. This is where the river ‘Lohit’ enters India. Lohit is a tributary of Brahmaputra river. It originates in the Kangri Garpo range of Tibet. There it is known as ‘Jayul Chu’.

Along the way to Kibitu village there are beautiful mountains. The white snow on them is a special attraction. In many places there are waterfalls.

Kibitu village is a strategic location of utmost importance due to its location on the Indo-China border. This village is located in Mishmi mountains, its 4 thousand feet above sea level.
Kibitu village is in east side of the Dang Valley, where the sun’s rays fall for the first time in India.
On the other side of the river is the village of Kaho. That village is also called the first village.
Kibithu and Kaho are also known as easternmost district of India
Kibithoo is one of the five officially agreed Border Personnel Meeting points between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army of China for regular consultations and interactions

During Indo-China War in 1962 :

Kibithu village has been witness to the 1962 war between India and China in 1962. Chinese forces entered Kaho in 1962. Indian soldiers bravely faced them.
During the war, Indian forces stopped 4 thousand Chinese soldiers in Walang its 20km before Kibithu village.
Indian Army has a military camp in Kibithu. Which is named after General Bipin Rawat.
During the war, the army unit at this camp resisted the Chinese assaults successfully. In this attack, 60–70 Chinese men died while four Indian soldiers were martyred.
Indian soldiers use foot suspension bridge to carry military equipment to Kibithu post. It is the only road connecting the eastern bank of the Lohit river with the western bank. Most of the roads are closed due to landslides.
Regular contacts between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army of China take place from time to time. Kibithu is one of the five border points selected for the purpose.

  1. Dibrugarh is the closest airport to reach Kibithu which is 414km away, from there it takes another it takes 14 hours to reach Kibithu.
  2. Tinsukia railway station is the nearest railway station to reach Kibithu which is 332km away.
  3. There are no shared bus or taxis available from Tinsukia railway station , you need to hire the private taxi to reach the Kibithu village.
  4. The only petrol station is in Khupa town, 125 km from this village. That is why those who travel in their own vehicles should ensure that they have full fuel.
  5. Anjav district headquarter Hawaii, 75 km away, The only near by place to stay is Hawaii , Anjav district which is 75km away from Kibitu .
  6. Walang War Memorial is visible 20 km before Kibithu village.
  7. ‘Garampani’ can be seen seven kilometres before Walang.
  8. There are many Hot water spring pools places to visit.
  9. From near the helipad in Kibitu, the location of the Chinese army camp is clearly visible.
  10. You can get a new experience by visiting Dang, the first village where sunlight falls on the land of India.
  11. People from other states can travel smoothly if they take Inner Line Permit (ILP) from Arunachal Pradesh state government.

Best Time to Visit Kibitu:

  • Summer, between Feb to June is the bets time to visit Kibitu , temperature during this time is between between 8 and 14 Degree Celsius.
  • Winter, between October and January is the coldest time with temperature dipping to 3 Degree Celsius may pose problem for tourists.
  • Monsoon, between June to September due to unpredictable road conditions and landslides it makes difficult to visit Kibitu.
